History

1994 - 1995

Background and Foundation

In 1994, the Nuevo Futuro Tenerife Association began its commitment to caring for minors in a situation of helplessness, by opening its first residential resource called “HOGAR SAN ANTONIO”. This home becomes a shelter and care space for minors referred by the Childhood and Family Unit of the Government of the Canary Islands. The entity became official on January 11, 1995 with a Board of Directors led by its President Ms. Carmen Gloria Rodríguez Valerón.

1995 - 2013

Household Development

Over the following years, Nuevo Futuro Tenerife establishes several Shelter Homes, such as “HOGAR SAN FERNANDO”, “HOGAR SAN JOSÉ” and HOGAR “LA OROTAVA”, in collaboration with the Childhood and Family Unit of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Island Institute of Social and Health Care of the Cabildo de Tenerife. These Homes become comprehensive care resources for minors in a situation of helplessness.

In 2010, after 16 years of Presidency, Ms. Carmen Gloria Rodríguez Valerón passes the baton to a new Board of Directors headed by Ms. Rosa Isabel Suárez Santana. Under this new direction and with D. Alfonso Roque Marrero as Director, the Association continued its vital work, adapting to the changing needs of the community and strengthening its commitment to the protection and well-being of the most vulnerable.

2013 - 2020

Transformation and expansion of Projects

In 2013, the restructuring of the network for fostering homeless minors led the Association to transfer minors to other entities. This process marks a turning point and motivates a profound transformation in the structure of Nuevo Futuro Tenerife. During 2014, the Association focuses its efforts on establishing “EMANCIPATION HOMES” in order to provide support and training to young people who come of age and leave the protection system. These Homes become spaces where young people can continue their education and preparation for independence and emancipation.

In addition, the “HOUSE HOME FOR MOTHERS IN SITUATION OF SOCIAL EMERGENCY” was created in 2016, providing a temporary safe space for mothers with children in vulnerable situations.

Nuevo Futuro Tenerife established LA CASA VERDE in 2018, an inclusive and participatory space that promotes personal, professional and social qualification. This initiative becomes a meeting and support point for people at risk of social exclusion and for the community in general.

2020 - 2023

An inspiring future

In 2020, a new Board of Directors assumed the commitment to guide the Nuevo Futuro Tenerife Association into the future. Headed by Mr. Miguel Ángel Díaz Hernández as President, this Board is made up of a group of people with a shared passion for guaranteeing and promoting social well-being.

With a solid foundation and already established programs, Nuevo Futuro Tenerife expands its Homes by opening in 2020 a temporary care residence space for FAMILIES IN A SITUATION OF SOCIAL VULNERABILITY and a year later, in 2021, the leap was made to the Island of La Palma, opening a resource to serve families in a situation of social emergency and especially those affected by the volcanic eruption, providing comprehensive support and guidance actions.

2024

Nuevo Futuro Tenerife is in a great transformation process. We strive to continually adapt to the real needs of the Community.

Looking to the future, in 2024 we celebrate 30 years of dedication to transforming the lives of the less fortunate. In this new stage, we plan to open new Homes and develop innovative Projects that strengthen our commitment to Fostering, training, independence and personal empowerment.
